Lopaičiai historical complex

The mysterious Lopaičiai Mound and the nature trail are hidden in the ruškis Landscape Reserve. The abundance of stones has given the area the Lithuanian name of Stonehenge, and the legends that circulate about Lopaičiai Nature Trail have led to it being regularly mentioned in lists of Lithuania's magical places. One of the most mystical places in Lithuania is the historical complex of the Lopaičiai Mound, which consists of a mound, a presumed ancient Samogitian sanctuary, mythological stones, a spring, and other archaeological and geological formations. It is believed to have once been the domain of the priesthood. This assumption is supported by the mysterious stone formations in Lopaičiai, which may be linked to ancient religion and customs.Tourists are also attracted by the moon or boat stone, which may mark the grave site of a buried priest. The Lopaičiai Observatory is a small ravine in a very smooth circle, with stones of various sizes preserved on its slopes. It has been speculated that this site may have been used to observe celestial bodies, determine the seasons and perhaps make important decisions based on the position of the stars. Some of the more interesting features of the Lopaičiai mound are the so-called observatory, the dolmen and spring, and the stones of wisdom and fertility. Legends have been circulating about this mystical place, the stones and the healing properties of the spring. Legends:1. The "wish fulfilment" stone - Visitors to Lopaičiai believe that a person who places a pebble on the big stone and expresses a wish clearly in their minds receives its fulfilment. Apparently, in this case we should not talk about supernatural phenomena that cannot exist in nature, but about human psychology.2. The shape of the stone gave rise to the belief that an infertile woman sitting on it could conceive. Legends of such occurrences have circulated, and the boulder has been called the 'fertility stone'. However, it is more likely that the "miracles" are due to human psychology and the energy field of the Earth, which is unknown in Lopaičiai, and which is known as the virtual energy field.3. Simonas Daukantas wrote down an observation of the Samogitians that the spring water flowing from the eastern slope of the hill has magical powers. In Lopaičiai, this can be explained by the fact that the water coming out of the ground is very clean and is immediately exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the Sun, which prevent bacteria from multiplying in the morning.4. A 2.1 km long nature trail in the Tverai forest district will lead you to the Lopaičiai hillfort. The trail features information boards, nine springs, beautiful valleys and the hilly surroundings of Samogitia. On the way along the trail, you will refresh yourself with spring water and admire the valley formed by the river. You can also take a stroller for a stroll.5. Signs in stones. In the southern part of the presumed place of worship lies a stone with a natural crescent or boat-shaped sediment. In a nearby stone you can see the image of a deer framed in a circle.6. The "healing" stone. In ancient times, the Samogitians believed that stones had the power to hold back evil forces. Visitors to Lopaičiai believe that a stone with a comfortable recess for lying down has healing powers.7. A face in stone. The abundance of stones on the southern slope of the presumed place of worship, the as yet unknown order of their placement, and the human face with a palm-shaped indentation carved in the stone suggest that this may have been the main site of the Semitic pagan rites at Lopaičiai.
