Independence monument in Tver

The Independence Monument in Tverai was erected in 1928 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of Lithuanian independence. It was initiated by the Tverai Riflemen. The monument was surrounded by a wooden fence with a wavy top. In 1963, the monument was demolished by order of the Soviet authorities. One of the demolition workers, while demolishing the monument, removed the cross on the top and asked people to take it to the pastor. The cross thus survived until the monument was rebuilt. The monument was rebuilt in 1989 with the cross at the top made in 1928.
