Medingėnai St. Trinity Church

Medingėnai is one of the oldest towns in Samogitia. Medingėnai was first mentioned in historical sources in 1253, in the Act of the Partition of Lands between the Order and the Bishop of Courland. The present wooden church was built in 1901-1902 and the parish was founded in 1913. It is a neo-Gothic, rectangular church with a two-nave plan, the interior of which is decorated with precious works of art. The sculptures here are included in the Register of Cultural Treasures of the Republic of Lithuania. One of them, created by the artist B. Balzukevičius at the beginning of the 20th century, depicts the Crucified One, while the other two sculptures, created by folk artists in the 19th century, depict the Holy Cross. St. Jonas of Nepomukas and St. Kazimeras. In the sacristy there is a painting from the early 19th century - the XIIth Station. The brick bell tower with interesting architecture was built in 1891. The sculptures inside it, created by folk artists in the 19th century, are also included in the Register of Cultural Property. The bell tower also contains a late 19th-century sculpture by the artist. The sculptures of the Crucified and the two apostles are from the 19th century.
