The Red Gate of Rietavas Park

Contact us

The Red Gate was built in the middle of the 19th century. It consists of 2 massive rectangular masonry pillars - pillars with pedestrian passages. In the time of the Oginskis, it was the representative gate of the manor. It was the gateway through which the princes left and their guests entered. Like the White Gate, it bears the symbol of the Rietavas coat of arms - lion sculptures (restored in 2002 by sculptor A. Sakalauskas). The metal openwork gates and wickets were restored in the second half of the 20th century; the central leaf was made by the furniture factory of the time around 1980.
